Playtime in Peterborough!
Children are invited to celebrate the beginning of Peterborough Play Week at the Wildlife Trust’s Wild Play Day Celebration in Central Park on Monday 3rd August 2009, from 11am to 3pm.
Come and enjoy a range of exciting activities including a mini-beast hunt and making kites, willow crowns and natural paint from recycled materials.
Becky Naman, Wild Play Officer said “This is a fantastic opportunity for children and families to discover wild play ideas and activities to do throughout the summer. In addition there will be an opportunity to find out about Wildlife Watch; the fantastic wildlife club for young people”.
To celebrate the event the Wildlife Trust is also holding a special Wild Play competition open to people aged up to 19 years. Whilst you’re out exploring this summer (or during the Central Park event) you can draw a picture of wildlife you have spotted (must be British and wild) and enter the competition for your chance to win a year’s free Wildlife Watch membership or an Adopt a Species. Either hand your entry in to us on the day or post to The Wildlife Trust, Eco Innovation Centre, City Road, Peterborough, PE1 1SA. Don’t forget to include your name, age and contact details.
Central Park is located within easy walking distance from Peterborough town centre between Park Road and Broadway to the north of Kings School. There is limited parking on Park Crescent and are other car parks close by. The park is served by a number of buses.
All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. This is a free event however there will be an opportunity at the events to make a donation to defray the costs of the events and support the work of the Wildlife Trust locally.
The Wildlife Trusts’ Wild Play project is funded through Peterborough City Council. The Wildlife Trust will be hosting Wild Play events around Peterborough’s nature reserves and green spaces to get children and young people outside and enjoying wildlife. The Wild Play Project will bring lots more Wild events for children and young people across Peterborough so keep an eye on the Wildlife Trust website www.wildlifebcnp.org for future events.
Please contact the Becky Naman, Wild Play Officer on 01733 294543 or email becky.naman@wildlifebcnp.org for more information.
Notes to Editor
The Wildlife Trust
The Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire and Peterborough is a charity for that works for a better future for wildlife across our area. It manages 128 nature reserves, covering over 5,500 acres; works to protect rare species (such as the otter, dormouse and barn owl); and fights to save sites where wildlife and the countryside is threatened. It involves people in every aspect of its work, through educating children about their natural environment, and encouraging everyone to enjoy wildlife and wild places in towns and the countryside. The Wildlife Trust is dependent on voluntary donations.
Wild Play Project
Wild Play Project invites the children and young people to come and play. The Wildlife Trust will be hosting Wild Play events around Peterborough’s nature reserves and green spaces to get children and young people outside enjoying wildlife.
Wildlife Watch
Across the UK thousands of adult volunteers are dedicated to running Wildlife Watch groups where children can meet and enjoy exploring their environment. Going regularly to a group, along with their peers, enables young people to have lots of fun and make new friends whilst they develop real understanding and commitment. Watch is generally advertised as a club for children of eight years and above, and although there are many younger children who do join in, and are usually encouraged to do so.
