Wild food at Waresley Wood

An open invitation to join us for lunch on Sunday 14 October

Have you ever wondered how our ancestors varied their diet before the days of a selection of food from all over the world easily sourced from supermarket shelves? If so come along to the Wildlife Trust’s Waresley and Gransden Woods on Sunday 14 October to discover more about traditional country food lore, which ‘wild’ foods can be gathered and how to combine them into delicious recipes. Jacky Sutton-Adam, a wild food enthusiast, will be in the wood to demonstrate natural ingredients, to talk about recipes, and to provide a tempting wild food lunch including soup, venison burgers/vegetarian alternative, wild fruit chutney and cakes between 12.30 and 1.30pm.

After lunch there will be a choice of guided walks with local experts, or a self-guided trail to discover some of the food plants of the wood which provide essential nourishment for the wildlife as well as tasty alternative ingredients for human consumption.

Tickets for the lunch and a walk at £5 per person must be booked with Helen - phone 01353 664745 or e-mail helen.moore@wildlifebcnp.org - before Monday 8 October.

Alternatively just come along after 1.30pm to collect seed and find out about wild food for people and wildlife on a self-guided walk, or take part in the guided walks with local experts. If you are lucky there may be a few samples left for you to taste. Suggested donation £2/£5 per family.
