Limestone grassland

The oolitic limestone of north Northamptonshire has some fine calcareous grassland interspersed with botanically and entomologically important gullets where ironstone has been extracted. Old Sulehay Forest Nature Reserve was acquired in 2001 and enlarged in 2002. Arable fields at Sammocks Hill are being converted to grassland and should provide a local seed-source for future restoration.
