The Devil’s Dyke Restoration Project
The Devil’s Dyke Restoration Project is a five-year Heritage Lottery Funded partnership project that aims to restore this site to its former glory and establish a sustainable management regime along the dyke. The project seeks to:
- protect and enhance areas of good quality chalk grassland habitat and associated species
- remove the majority of encroaching scrub and use a seed spraying technique to re-establish the grass sward
- re-introduce traditional grazing along the majority of the Dyke
- improve access for visitors by providing good access, including well managed footpaths and on-site information
- provide ‘intellectual access’ to the Dyke through its website www.devilsdykeproject.org.uk, leaflets, guided walks, talks and resources for schools.
The project is a partnership scheme involving The Wildlife Trust, English Nature, English Heritage and Cambridgeshire County Council’s Countryside, Archaeological and Farms Units, working together.
