Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Water Vole Recovery Project
The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Water Vole Recovery Project is a two-year Project started in May 2005. The main aim of the Project is to implement the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Water Vole Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP).
The objectives of the BAP are to maintain the current distribution and status of water voles in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough and to restore water voles to their former widespread distribution in all river catchments by 2015.
Within this framework the Water Vole Recovery Project aims to:
- monitor the current status and distribution of water vole and mink throughout Cambridgeshire and Peterborough
- promote and recommend suitable habitat management and enhancement for water vole
- provide specific advice as necessary to relevant authorities and riparian owners on the conservation of water vole populations.
The Project is supported by the Environment Agency, Anglian Water, the Biodiversity Partnership, the Wildlife Trust and English Nature. For more information on how you can get involved, please contact the Water Vole Project Officer on 01954 713533.
