Educational opportunities
School visits
The staff of Randalls Farm Environmental Education Centre offer a variety of programmes for school groups of all ages. The staff will help you plan your visit, offering flexible and creative suggestions to help meet your objectives.
Really Wild Days Out
Really Wild Days Out is a suite of education activites delivered by experienced education officers and trained volunteers. A carefully planned day of activities is offered for up to 60 pupils, including post-visit educational materials.
Really Wild Days Out visits have a charge of £3.50 per child for a full-day, or £2 for a half-day. Accompanying adults may attend free of charge and are required at a ratio of 1:5 for KS1 and 1:8 for KS2.
We prepare up-to-date risk assessments for each site and activity to help you plan your visit, and ask you to attend a pre-visit orientation session in preparation. Photographic consent is sought for each group on booking.
Groups visiting Randalls Farm will be invited to take up the low impact lunch challenge to demonstrate how much unnecessary packaging is involved in the average packed lunch. Packaging will be sorted and any that cannot be reused or recycled will be weighed.
All programmes on offer are detailed in the Really Wild Days Out brochure and our detailed school visits brochures:
School visits 2007 KS1&2
School visits 2007 KS2&3
A number of programmes have also been developed for presentation in schools, between the October and February half terms. The programmes are intended for a maximum of 40 students, can vary in time and can be combined or customised to suit your needs. We also offer assemblies on a variety of topics. For more information, please download In-School Programmes 2007.
To arrange a visit or discuss the programmes, please get in touch with Su Jenkins, the centre manager.
GCSE and project programmes
Randalls Farm offers a number of programmes for students studying for GCSEs and carrying out school, college or university projects. We can also work with groups developing new programmes. For more detailed information, download our brochure GCSE and project programmes 2007. To arrange a visit or discuss the programmes, please get in touch with Su Jenkins, the centre manager.
Project work for higher/further education
Students in higher or continuing education are offered a range of opportunities for the development of practical skills and wildlife conservation knowledge. Please get in touch with the centre manager, Su Jenkins, or the Wildlife Trust Ecology Groups Officer, for advice about surveying and monitoring projects available at Trust sites on 01604 405285 or ecologygroups@wildlifebcnp.org
Teacher training opportunities
Many teachers are interested in teaching their students in an outside environment. The Wildlife Trust education staff are experienced field teachers who are eager to pass along their skills in leading outdoor education for people of all ages. Advice, training and support are provided to teachers through one-to-one meetings, orientation sessions and workshops. Schools and community groups are encouraged to use Wildlife Trust sites and other green spaces for 'real world' learning, and Trust education staff can help build the skills and confidence to do so. For more information, please get in touch with the centre manager.
