GrazeBeds is a grazing scheme set up in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.  The scheme was established in order to facilitate contact between graziers and landowners, support the re-establishment of grazing animals on neglected grasslands and support local grazing. 

NEWS | May 2010

  • GrazeBeds will be moving shortly to a new website called Cut&Chew.  Due to the success of GrazeBeds, the Wildlife Trust will be expanding the grazing match making service provided through GrazeBeds to try and help match animal owners in need of hay with hay suppliers in the local area.  We will also be trying to help landowners, who struggle to find anyone to cut their field for hay,  find someone who is willing to do this.   • A farmer in north Devon who lost 13 sheep in a rottweiler attack, praises police and council staff for prosecuting the dog's owner.  For more information click here.
  • Farmer's Guardian recently did a series of online events where you could listen to what experts think about how the farming sector is likely to fare in 2010.  These event are available to watch at your leisure.  One of the sessions was on the beef and sheep sector.  To view this online talk, which is approximately one hour long, please click here
  • Campaign for the Farmed Environment (CFE) - launch in November 2009, this campaign aims to retain and exceed the environmental benefits that used to be provided by set aside, all the leading farming organisations are now working together to encourage farmers and land managers to voluntarily adopt important land management practices that will benefit the environment.  Through the Campaign you will be offered the best possible advice and guidance on how to retain and increase the environmental benefits provided by your farmland.  Aims of GrazeBeds:       

  •   Match landowners or landmanagers in need of grazing with potential graziers in the local area.  You can register livestock and land for FREE.
  • Provide a free local information directory on advice sources and support services (e.g. vets and other relevant issues).
  • Provide free grazing management and livestock management advice.  
  • Free advice on conservation grazing for wildlife.  

The 'Nude Ewe' Project

Wool is spun from the fleeces of sheep used on nature conservation projects around Bedfordshire.  The proceeds from sales are returned to the grazier to help recover the cost of shearing.  If you are interested in selling your wool through the Nude Ewe Project , please contact Laura Downton (Tel: 01234 364213
