PRIORITY SPECIES LIST
There are a significant number of species found
in Northamptonshire which are threatened either nationally or locally. Rather than write species plans for each
individual species The Biodiversity Steering Group has asked experts wherever
possible to link the species to the habitats in which they occur. The following lists are of species which we
believe will benefit from the actions outlined in the relevant Habitat Action Plans. Where a species may not benefit from the
implementation of a Habitat Action Plan a separate Species Action Plan has been
prepared.
The national priority species lists include
those species which appear in the National Biodiversity Action Plan and which
are known to occur in Northamptonshire. The
local priority species lists are based on the species identified in
Northamptonshire’s Red Data Book as being species of local concern.
Where local experts
have indicated that the situation for species has altered we have tried to
incorporate those changes in the lists.
These lists only represent those groups of species where it has been
possible to establish a link between habitats and species. Information for many groups is not yet
available.
We are very grateful
to those local experts who have provided the knowledge necessary for the
preparation of these lists. These
included Gill Gent and Rob Wilson (Flowering plants), Tony Drane (Beetles) and
John Ward (Moths). Work is continuing,
both locally and nationally, on establishing links for other groups.
