Amazing Grazing Appeal
The Wildlife Trust has launched a new campaign to help tackle one of the biggest conservation headaches to threaten the fragile wildlife on many nature reserves. The problem is scrub encroachment – and the answer is grazing with sheep and cattle.
We have already used sheep to graze some of nature reserves, such as Collyweston Quarry in Northamptonshire, and it has worked extremely well. Wildflowers are flourishing and there are plenty of insects, birds and other wildlife.
Now we need to increase our flock of sheep to ensure regular sheep and cattle grazing for many more key wildlife sites in Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire. If we can do this it will remove the threat of scrub encroachment from much larger areas of wildlife habitat, allowing us to protect the future of some of our most precious species.
The Amazing Grazing initiative has already received valuable funding from the SITA Trust, Heritage Lottery Fund, English Nature and Grantscape. But we are still facing an immediate shortfall of £45,000 to do the work in full. Please help us to find the shortfall by making a donation today.
