Friends of the Wildlife Trust

The Landfill Communities Fund was set up in the 1990s to improve the environment around landfill sites. The Wildlife Trust has been successful for many years in accessing grants from this source to carry out essential wildlife conservation work.

To release money from the Landfill Communities Fund, the Wildlife Trust has to find 10% of the grant value from another source. As a result, the Wildlife Trust set up the ‘Friends of the Wildlife Trust’, which can collect together donations from our supporters to release these grants.

For every £10 you give to ‘Friends of the Wildlife Trust’, we can release £100 from the fund to support projects that will make a real difference to wildlife and habitats in your area. Projects we urgently need funding for include:

  • Forests for the Future, which will employ a reserves officer for three years to carry out essential habitat management works at the Trust’s woodland nature reserves across Cambridgeshire.
  • The Nene Valley Project, which will make improvements to habitats and access at four fantastic wetland nature reserves in Northamptonshire.
  • Return of Chalk Grassland, which will help the Trust to remove scrub and graze areas of Pegsdon Hills, Bedfordshire, restoring flower-rich chalk grasslands.

We will be very grateful for any donations we receive. Thank you.
