Cambridge school children take action for the environment
Milton Road Primary School Go4Green on World Environment Day
Milton Road Primary School in Cambridge celebrated World Environment Day on Tuesday 5 June by ‘Going 4 Green’ by wearing green clothing, and creating a sparkling ‘River of Silver, collecting an amazing £410 of silver coins for the local Wildlife Trust.
World Environment Day is an annual campaign by The United Nations to raise awareness about the environment: This year’s theme is ‘Melting Ice - A Hot Topic’. The Wildlife Trust’s across the Eastern region will shortly be launching the new ‘Climate Challenge’ website, where local people and businesses can log on, save hundreds of pounds and help wildlife adapt to climate change in their area. The website will be going live on 07.07.07, the date of Live Earth. By helping to provide local solutions The Wildlife Trusts aim to promote positive messages about action on climate change for local people.
Linda Marshall, the community fundraising officer, visited Milton Road Primary and gave an informative presentation, explaining to the pupils how The Wildlife Trust ‘Takes Action’ for wildlife and the environment. Linda said, “I am thrilled that the pupils have collected such a huge number of silver coins. All the staff and pupils looked tremendous in their green garments. Everyone entered into the spirit of things and it was great fun!”.
