Corporate support is going strong in 2007

Local businesses raise over £100,000 for wildlife!

Over the last year, local companies have raised over £100,000 for The Wildlife Trust, demonstrating how local businesses can really make a difference in our area.

Businesses have been supporting the charity in all sorts of different ways, including sponsorship of local projects, in-kind donations, corporate team tasks and corporate membership.

Tamzin Hackett, business development manager for The Wildlife Trust said, “The total amount raised by businesses for the charity is outstanding. Companies both large and small have been helping to make this year a great year for wildlife conservation and community work across our area.”

In May, 20 volunteers from the customer services team at gold corporate members National Grid spent a day volunteering at Pitsford Reservoir Nature Reserve. They replaced 250 metres of worn fencing along the boundary of the reserve that posed a hazard to visitors and livestock. This was the first of five National Grid employee-volunteering days as part of an ongoing package of support for The Wildlife Trust.

Amanda O’Shea, performance manager for National Grid said, “We are pleased that we will be helping the environment for the benefit of the local community whilst offering our staff a chance to become involved in the work of their local Wildlife Trust”.

Bronze corporate members the Rotary Club of Northampton Becket ended a year’s support in great style by providing a £100 prize to local schools for a poster competition. The Rotary Club adopted the Wildlife Trust as one of its chosen charities and provided 16 local primary schools with membership of the Wildlife Trust, and covered visits by expert Wildlife Trust staff. All 16 schools were invited to take part in a poster competition, with the theme ‘Don’t drop litter’.

Terry Atkinson, president of Northampton Becket Rotary Club, chose Kiren Parkash as the winner of the poster competition. Terry said, “We were delighted to be able to present Kiren with her prize. Her design was chosen as it encapsulated many important messages about littering. We were delighted to have supported the Wildlife Trust over the past year, as we have enabled the charity to engage with hundreds of local children and enthuse them about the natural world”.

At the Wildlife Trust’s annual networking event this month, companies followed in the footsteps of HRH Prince of Wales and Stephen Fry as they explored the stunning National Nature Reserve that is Woodwalton Fen, part of the Great Fen Project. Wildlife Trust staff officially thanked local companies for their vital support.

The celebratory event was kindly supported by local companies too. Wildlife Trust corporate members, Waitrose, donated wine and drinks and the Cambridge Cheese Company donated a selection of delicious cheeses. In addition, two local companies generously offered to provide their services with huge discounts - Huntsman Catering provided a hogroast dinner and Pea Green toilets provided luxury toilets, which are also environmentally friendly!

The Wildlife Trust receives help from companies large and small. There are many ways in which companies can support the work of the Trust, helping us to make our area a better place for wildlife and people.
