Wild ideas for wild discovery

Local Cambourne residents are encouraged to give ideas for a new discovery trail

The local Wildlife Trust is inviting local residents to contribute their ideas for the new Wild Discovery Trail in Cambourne at a Wild Ideas event on Monday 6 August at the Manor House in Cambourne. Everyone is invited to the event to view the Trust's plans to improve wildlife habitats around Cambourne and involve the community in this exciting new project. Artwork competition entries from local children will be on display, with the winners being announced later this year and their illustrations included on the new signboards for the Cambourne Wild Discovery Trail.

Jenny Mackay from The Wildlife Trust said, “There will be a guided walk around the proposed route of the new wildlife discovery trail, followed by a fantastic opportunity for everyone to contribute their wild ideas and let us know what they would like to find out about along the trail.“

The Cambourne Wildlife Discovery Project has got the go ahead thanks to the support of local businesses and organisations, who have raised over £11,600. These fantastic donations have released another £10,000 from the Waste Recycling Group Ltd, administered by WREN. This will fund vital work to enhance Cambourne nature reserve for local wildlife and threatened species. It will also help local people to enjoy and learn more about this stunning wildlife area.

Sarah Gosling, Cambridgeshire project manager for WREN said, “WREN is very pleased to be associated with this important work being carried out by The Wildlife Trust. On behalf of our donor organisation, The Waste Recycling Group (WRG), it is our responsibility to see that money from the Landfill Communities Fund Scheme is spent wisely on community environmental schemes and this project demonstrates the importance of the natural environment to all communities”.

Businesses and organisations helping to fund the charity’s project include South Cambridgeshire District Council. Cambourne Business Park, the Cambourne Consortium of Bovis Homes, Bryant Homes and George Wimpey Homes, Cambridge Water Company, Malcolms Estate Agents, the Cambourne Crier, alongside a generous donation from the legacy of Miss Audrey Martin.

There are still parts of the project that need support. If your business can make a contribution and would like to have your name and logo recognised on one of the new signboards, The Wildlife Trust would like to hear from you.
