Northampton nature reserve activity trail opens
A celebration day has been held to mark a programme of improvements at Lings
The Wildlife Trust invited Northampton mayor, Councillor Lee Mason, along to a celebration event on Friday 24 August at Lings Local Nature Reserve to open a new activity trail.
The reserve is situated on the edge of the Eastern District of Northampton and is signposted off Lings Way. It is made up of a variety of habitats including scrub, ponds, woodland and acid grassland. The reserve supports a wide range of wildlife including a variety of butterflies, wild plants and birds and is a popular site for local people to visit.
Thanks to funding from the Department of Communities and Local Government via the River Nene Regional Park, access and interpretation enhancements have now been completed alongside habitat enhancement work. This has included new paths, green gym equipment, carved wooden sculptures and a magnification post. Heathland regeneration work is continuing to improve the overall structure of the woodland. This funding has enhanced Lings Local Nature Reserve, an important component in the network of green spaces that the River Nene Regional Park is developing.
