The Millions Mobile Project

Recycle your old mobile phone for wildlife

‘The Million Mobiles Project’ has been launched by the Wildlife Trust in an effort to recycle mobile phones and raise funds to help local wildlife. Local people will be encouraged to hunt for their old mobile phones and donate them in freepost envelopes which can be provided by the Trust.

Bedford School boys were amongst the first to recycle their mobile phones to help launch the ‘The Million Mobiles Project’. The students hunted out their old mobile phones and donated them in freepost envelopes provided by the Wildlife Trust, who working in partnership with Re:cycle your mobile, who will donate up to £10 per phone to help carry out vital wildlife conservation work.

Jeremy Farrell from Bedford School who launched their collection said ”The Million Mobiles Project will ensure that The Wildlife Trust can continue to deliver and expand its vital education services which benefit so many of our children across the region. We are pleased to be helping the Wildlife Trust in this simple way.”

Wildlife Trust fundraising manager, Jonathan Leadley said, “Many people may receive a new mobile phone for Christmas this year. Why not recycle your old one with the Wildlife Trust and help your local wildlife during this festive season?”

It is estimated today that there is somewhere in the region of 60 million to 90 million unwanted handsets lying unused in drawers and offices in the UK. With millions more new handsets being pumped into an already saturated market place each year at greatly subsidised prices, this mountain just continues to grow.

The Wildlife Trust is seeking help from schools, businesses, community organisations and members of the public, to collect phones and recycle them. For information about how to order envelopes and posters contact Linda Marshall on 01234 364213 or linda.marshall (at) wildlifebcnp.org or visit www.recycleyourmobile.co.uk
