Young Trust members scoops major award
Stockgrove Wildlife Watch Group excels in our region
Stockgrove Wildlife Watch Group based in Bedfordshire have been chosen as Eastern Region Winners in the ‘Watch group of the Year’ competition 2007.
Groups entering the competition were asked to submit a Wildlife Watch scrap book which outlined the activities that the children participated in during 2007. In order to showcase their activities the children were encouraged to help compile the scrap book which included drawings, photographs and descriptions of their favourite activities.
The Stockgrove group particularly impressed the judges with their varied programme, which not only focussed on wildlife, but a range of environmental issues. Their programme included wildlife discovery, habitat management, mapping, food miles and lots more.
Stockgove Watch leaders were especially commended for tailoring their programme to meet the children’s needs, therefore creating a feeling of ownership amongst all the members of the Watch Group.
The group also demonstrated that they had developed close links with the wider community by inviting a number of local experts along to watch group meetings to talk to the children about different types of wildlife and wider environmental issues.
Amanda Swinford, Wildlife Watch officer with the Wildlife Trust said “This is an amazing achievement for Stockgrove watch and their success is testament to the hard work of the watch leaders and the enthusiasm of the children”.
Stockgrove Wildlife Watch Group will receive a certificate signed by wildlife expert Chris Packham.
If you are 8-12 years old and interested in going along to your local wildlife watch group please contact wildlife watch officer Amanda Swinford on 01604 405285 or amanda.swinford (at) wildlifebcnp.org.
