What’s new?

8 April 2008

Attention all budding naturalists!

Workshops for beginners are now available from The Wildlife Trust this April

Do you want to develop your skills by learning about what special wildlife you have right on your doorstep, but don’t know where to start?

Are you a fledgling birdwatcher, someone who wants to discover the nocturnal world of bats or interested in learning about wildflowers, insects or reptiles?

How about attending one of The Wildlife Trust’s 'Beginning With' Training Workshops held at some of the best wildlife sites in Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.

Easing you into the natural world, these workshops are an excellent start before moving onto The Wildlife Trust’s more detailed workshops.

Wildlife Training Workshops are run by experienced local naturalists who give guidance on how to learn, provide comprehensive booklists, information on ecology and conservation and point people in the right direction, should they wish to progress their skills further.

In conjunction with the Wildlife Training Workshops, The Wildlife Trust also welcomes you to join one of the local Ecology Groups, which supports over 250 volunteers, using the diverse flora and fauna of Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire as a teaching resource.

Ecology Groups use their new skills to carry out local monitoring projects at some of the best and most valuable wildlife sites in the area. Information generated from the groups is then used to influence important future management decisions to ensure that the most valuable wildlife sites are preserved and enhanced.

Thanks to support from Natural England through Defra’s Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund, many events and activities have taken place including roadshows and training workshops, as well as vital habitat management work on key nature reserves along the Nene Valley.

If you would like any further information on the Wildlife Training Workshops Programme, please contact Juliette Butler, Wildlife Training Workshops officer, on 01604 405285 or juliette.butler [at] wildlifebcnp.org, or see below for an update on up-and-coming wildlife training workshops:
