The Wildlife Trust's a winner –

£50,000 is awarded for people and wildlife

Staff from the Wildlife Trust's Randalls Farm Environmental Education Centre near Bedford are celebrating after the announcement that the Wildlife Trust's Wildlife Challenge project has been awarded £50,000 through the People's Millions programme. The result of the competition was announced on ITV's Anglia News on Wednesday 3rd November.

Su Jenkins, Randalls Farm Education Officer, said "I am delighted that so many people thought this project worthy of their support - a thank you to everybody who voted for us." She went on to say how the Trust plans to spend the prize money; "Thanks to the Big Lottery Fund and ITV, we will be helping more children and their families to enjoy wildlife and the environment. Our new minibus and activity trailer will enable us to visit those communities who are unable to come to Randalls Farm."

The Trust will also transform a corner of Randalls Farm by creating miniature examples of chalk downland and heathland. Quantities of chalk and sand donated by local companies will be landscaped and local people will be asked to come and help collect seeds and plant flowers such as wild thyme, kidney vetch and heather to attract wildlife.
