Volunteers celebrate their achievements
Over 80 naturalists attend the Wildlife Trust’s Ecology Group Conference
On Saturday 29 March, The Wildlife Trust celebrated the achievements of the Valley Volunteers Project and Ecology Groups at the Ecology Group Conference in Thrapston, Northamptonshire.
The event marked the end of the Valley Volunteers Project, which engaged local communities to take action for important wetland habitats in the Nene Valley and update our scientific knowledge of the condition of those habitats.
The Valley Volunteers Project, funded by Natural England through Defra’s Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund (ASLF), supported a range of events and activities, including surveying, monitoring and habitat management, and the conference itself. The conference included presentations given by Wildlife Trust volunteers and staff on subjects ranging from bats to water beetles, and from climate change to Living Landscapes.
Rosie Blackman, the project officer said “It was great to see so many of our valued volunteers talking about the Project they are involved in and their hopes for 2008. The work of the Ecology Groups over Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire is truly inspirational. So many man hours are given to support such a worthy course – it’s fantastic!”
