Paradise receives a helping hand

A Cambridge business and its customers dig deep

The Cambridge Cheese Company and their customers have raised over £1500 to support Paradise and Skaters' Meadow Nature Reserves in Cambridge, close to the city.

The Cambridge Cheese Company is well known for providing an extraordinary selection of cheese and speciality foods in their shop in All Saints Passage in Cambridge city centre. Through a variety of fundraising measures, including charging 20p for every new plastic bag used in the shop, Cambridge Cheese and their customers have raised a total of over £2500 to support The Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire and Peterborough. In 2005, £1000 was raised for Shepreth L-Moor Nature Reserve.

Paul Sutton-Adam of The Cambridge Cheese Company said, "We are proud that our business and our customers have been able to help local wildlife where it is threatened. As a child I spent many happy days climbing trees and playing in meadows. Our world would be so much poorer without nature and we really must take steps to protect it, not just abroad, but on our doorsteps too."

Paradise, a beautiful wet woodland nature reserve nestling on the River Cam close to the centre of Cambridge, is one of the country's rarest and most threatened habitats. Skaters' Meadow was flooded for ice skating in the 19th century when our winters were colder. You can still see the iron lamp-post in the centre. As summer approaches, the pink flowers of the early marsh-orchids provide a highlight for visitors.

The Wildlife Trust works with many companies, both large and small across the three counties. If you would like further information about how you or your company can get involved, please call:
