Cambridgeshire reserve gets new wildlife facilities

Local Members' Group and conservation volunteers make it happen

Grafham Water Nature reserve near Huntingdon now has a new pond and pond-dipping platform thanks to the fundraising efforts of the Huntingdon Area Local Members' Group.

The facilities were opened by Dr Dafila Scott, a noted naturalist, zoologist and wildlife artist, and daughter of the naturalist Peter Scott, who opened Grafham Water Nature Reserve 40 years earlier.

Huntingdon Area Local Members' Group raised over £6,000 to pay for the pond and the platform's construction, which is situated just inside the Trust nature reserve, close to Mander car park. Many thanks go to the funders, who include Anglian Water, Cartridge World, Greenwillows Associates, Huntingdon Cromwell Rotary Club and many other organisations and individuals.

A new bird hide has also been constructed by the reserve warden, Matt Hamilton, and conservation volunteers who undertake practical conservation tasks every Wednesday. This will enable ornithologists, both serious and amateur, to study the birdlife of Grafham Water in comfort.

Grafham Water Nature Reserve is owned by Anglian Water and managed by The Wildlife. For more information please contact George Cottam on 01480 450809.
