Run raises funds for local wildlife
The Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire and Peterborough has been awarded £1,000 thanks to the dedication and determination of 1,000 runners.
The first ever Cambridge & Cambourne 10k run took place in April to raise money for several causes including local wildlife and the work of the Wildlife Trust.
The course was mostly on Wildlife Trust land, which provided a natural and scenic environment for both the runners and over 500 spectators who came to cheer them on.
Accepting the cheque today, Wildlife Trust Chief Executive Nick Hammond, said, “We are very pleased to accept this cheque and are very grateful to all the runners and organisers who helped make the run such a success. The run went across some pleasant Wildlife Trust land, and we are glad areas like this can be used for people to have fun and for wildlife to flourish.”
The funds raised will help the Wildlife Trust’s work to manage its 128 nature reserves, which cover over 5,500 acres, protect rare species (such as otter, dormouse and barn owl), and inspire people to enjoy their natural world and local wildlife.
The Wildlife Trust had its own pair of runners – Marketing Co-ordinator Rachel Mortimer and Wildlife Sites Officer Christa Perry.
