Have your say

Join the Stop Climate Chaos event in Trafalgar Square on Saturday 4 November

With street bands, entertainment, film, performance and speakers – come and be part of the greatest climate chaos event of the year.

Thousands of people delivering some ear-bending political noise on the eve of critical international climate talks, and just over a week before the Queen's Speech, which could see the introduction of a bill to help stop climate chaos. To count you have to be there. And so do your friends!

In recent years, concern over climate change – a bit like the process itself – has taken on an impetus of its own. Governments, local authorities, companies and all kinds of voluntary organisations are signing up to protocols, mission statements and best practice guidelines at an ever-increasing rate. But crucial targets are being missed. Politicians are certainly making the right noises but is it another case of fine words not being backed by appropriate action?

Whilst the British public may now be aware of some of the worst consequences of global warming, many people are still not as concerned as one might expect with the biggest problem that we have ever faced.

Climate change is accepted as a huge danger by the most of the world’s Governments. Here in the UK, the Government’s Chief Scientific Advisor believes it’s more dangerous than terrorism, and Tony Blair has declared that climate change is the greatest long term threat we face. However most governments and most of us are carrying on as if we hadn’t seen the danger signs. That’s why Stop Climate Chaos (SCC) was formed – to build irresistible public pressure through political action and changes to our own lifestyles – forcing leaders to act.

SCC aims to bring together all sorts of organisations – environment and development groups, faith groups, humanitarian organisations, women’s groups, trade unions and many others – to mobilise public concern, and through this the necessary political action, to stop climate chaos.

SCC is planning a mass gathering in Trafalgar Square, on 4th November to coincide with international talks on climate change which will be starting in Nairobi. They hope it will be ‘the biggest ever UK event to stop climate chaos’ with thousands of supporters from all over the UK and from SCC coalition members such as The Wildlife Trusts.

The Wildlife Trusts are planning to help individual Trusts in involving their members, volunteers and staff in the event. The event is for everyone – including families. The main elements are:

Before 1pm – The Wildlife Trusts are hoping to provide a place for people to congregate before the event.  Details to be confirmed.

1 – 2pm - Arrival at Trafalgar Square, celebrating arrivals of those who have arrived by innovative low carbon means. There will be street bands and entertainers. People will be converging from different events to the Square.

2 – 3pm – Speakers, film and performances on a stage in the Square. It will be an opportunity to send a loud, clear message to the government about climate change.

Whether you care about the environment, global poverty, wildlife or just you and your family, this is your chance to make your voice count and send a message to the Prime Minister and other world leaders that they too must stand up to stop climate chaos.
