Communities go wild at big celebration event
A Peterborough nature reserve sees the launch of exciting new project
The Wildlife Trust and Perkins have just celebrated the Big Celebration Event launch of the new £19,000 Go Wild Project in Peterborough, at Eye Green Local Nature Reserve. They were joined by Malcolm Moss MP for North East Cambridgeshire, Marion Todd, Deputy Mayor of Peterborough and over 200 people from the local community.
Many people were invited to the Go Wild Project launch at Eye Green Local Nature Reserve. Local people, families and communities saw autumn wildlife up close and enjoyed a host of free and exciting activities, including storytelling exploring the links between culture and nature, arts and crafts using natural materials from around the reserve and autumn wildlife trails. The Go Wild Project will ensure that communities from all around Peterborough will have many more opportunities to enjoy the amazing wildlife on their doorsteps.
Nick Hammond, director of the Wildlife Trust said, “We are very grateful to Perkins and the Caterpillar Foundation, whose support has made the Go Wild Project happen. One of the wonderful things about the Trust’s nature reserves is that they are open every day of the year, they’re free and belong to everyone. The Go Wild Project will ensure that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy these wild places, creating a focus for community events and activities.”
The Go Wild Project is a partnership between the Wildlife Trust, Perkins and the Caterpillar Foundation, which has provided the funding, to bring wildlife and communities together in Peterborough. It's enabling the Trust to to carry out extensive management work on some of the charity’s key Local Nature Reserves in the city providing homes for a diversity of wildlife, including threatened species like water voles and long-eared owls. The Go Wild Project aims to bring wildlife and communities together in these local havens. There will be activities for everyone to enjoy on Wildlife Trust reserves, from wildlife walks and outings for school groups to community events and weekly volunteer teams.
