Volunteers seeking spring song

Some of our most beautiful wild places are best seen and experienced by dawn’s early light, when the chorus of wild birds is at its peak.

This spring the Wildlife Trust is inviting yet more volunteers to swell the ranks of its Ecology Groups and help monitor our nature reserves.

The Wildlife Trust is currently looking for volunteers who know how to identify birds by their songs to help monitor nature reserves, such as Flitwick Moor in Bedfordshire, as well as Brampton Wood, Cambourne, Grafham Water and Lattersey in Cambridgeshire, and Bradlaugh Fields, Glapthorn Cow Pastures, Old Sulehay, Titchmarsh and Twywell Hills & Dales, in Northamptonshire.

Voluntary will encounter an exciting range of species, including declining birds such as; Bullfinch, Nightingale, Song Thrush, Skylark and Woodcock.

Henry Stanier, the Trust’s Ecology Groups Officer said, “It’s a great way to really appreciate the best sights and sounds our reserves can offer, and the wildlife benefit in the process.”

Henry went on to say, “Additional training and support is provided as well as equipment, all you need to offer us is your enthusiasm and a few days of your time.”

The Ecology Groups are teams of dedicated volunteers who monitor the health of many of our nature reserves in the area, gathering a wide range of information about wildlife and wild places; they play a vital role in the operation of the Trust, gathering important evidence supporting the conservation techniques used today.
