The biggest water butt in Bedfordshire?
Environmental education centre takes action to save water
Randalls Farm Environmental Education Centre are doing their best to save water and look after their pond on site by installing a water butt to keep pond water levels from dropping too low.
After successive dry winters the Randalls Farm dipping pond levels have been extremely low. With the help of Dunstable College students and the midweek team volunteers from Bedford, a 1000 litre water butt was installed to collect water running off the barn roofs. The pond is now full with a good depth of water in front of both of the pond dipping platforms.
It is hoped that by using the rainwater to refill the pond, high water levels will be maintained during the summer and autumn, for both people and wildlife.
