What’s new?

Cool creepy crawlies and marvellous minibeasts at The Royal Bug Ball at King’s Wood!

Join us to celebrate the magnificent minibeasts that live at King’s Wood Local Nature Reserve in Corby. The King’s Wood Royal Bug Ball will run from 10.30am – 12.30pm on Saturday 16th July.

King’s Wood is home to all kinds of weird and wonderful insects that play a very important role in the ecosystem of the reserve; they are the true kings and queens of the wood!

Louise Tuffin, Community Involvement Officer at The Wildlife Trust, says ‘as we are walking through woodlands such as King’s Wood it’s easy to think we are alone – but we’re most definitely not.

If we stop to take a closer look at the vegetation around us the number of minibeasts you can find is amazing. It is this diversity of insect life that makes places like King’s Wood really special, and our King’s Wood Royal Bug Ball will enable local families to discover and explore some of it for themselves – you might be surprised what you find.’

As well as hunting for bugs and minibeasts, you will also be able to have a go at some insect-themed natural arts and crafts, and test your knowledge with an insect trail quiz!

This is a free event but all donations are gladly received. The event will take place outdoors so please dress appropriately for the weather and sturdy shoes are advised as the ground may be uneven.

This event forms part of The Great Outdoors Project, which aims to encourage more people to get involved with their local nature reserves. The project is funded by Natural England’s Access to Nature grant scheme which is funded by £25m from the Big Lottery Fund’s Changing Spaces Programme.
