Wildlife’s powerful new supporter
The local Wildlife Trust welcomes National Grid as its newest gold corporate member!
In the past National Grid has supported the Wildlife Trusts in a variety of ways, both on a national and local level. It has now decided that it would like to channel its support directly into the areas where it has a presence, in order to improve the environment for the local community and provide encouragement and opportunity for its staff to get involved.
The partnership means that as well as supporting the charity’s work, National Grid’s employees can provide hands-on help for nature conservation. Staff from The Lakes will be leaving their desks for four days of volunteering at a few of the Trust’s nature reserves. Their challenges include clearing scrub from important limestone grasslands, controlling willow trees on wetland reserves in the Nene Valley and removing non-native species such as sycamore and rhododendron from protected sites.
Kevan Smith, Business Improvement and Delivery Manager for National Grid said, “We have supported the work of the local Wildlife Trust for a while now, through employee volunteering, and it is great to formalise our support through corporate membership. We are pleased to be able to help the environment for the local community and offer our staff a chance to become involved in the work of their local Wildlife Trust”.
National Grid manages the backbone of the country’s energy networks – operating the high-voltage electricity transmission network and the high-pressure gas network across Great Britain. It also owns the electricity transmission network in England and Wales and four gas distribution networks across England.
This partnership brings the number of businesses supporting the Wildlife Trust to 88 across the three counties. If your business would like to find out more about the scheme and how your company could benefit from the association, please follow the link for corporate involvement.
