Update on Lings Local Nature Reserve
What on earth is going on?
The Wildlife Trust held an information evening on Friday 25 May, giving an overview of progress made and future plans for the reserve, following the successful launch of the Lings Local Nature Reserve project in November last year.
The evening started with a guided tour of the reserve and a slide show in the Environmental Centre highlighting all the work that has been completed in the past six months.
Thanks to funding from the River Nene Regional Park, footpath improvement work has taken place, a magnification post has been erected, heathland regeneration work is continuing to improve the overall structure of the woodland, and three wood sculptures have been installed. This funding has enhanced Lings Local Nature Reserve, an important component in the network of green spaces that the River Nene Regional Park is developing.
Lings Local Nature Reserve is situated in the eastern district of Northampton, signposted off Lings Way. It is made up of a variety of habitats including scrub, ponds, woodland and acid grassland. The reserve supports a wide range of wildlife including a variety of butterflies, wild plants and birds.
The Environmental Centre is used for a wide range of educational and community group activities led by experienced Wildlife Trust staff throughout the year.
