Wildlife Trust Ecology Groups
Wildlife Trust Ecology Groups are teams of local people who volunteer on clusters of nearby nature reserves with similar wildlife habitats.
The main activity of Ecology Group members is fieldwork, which requires natural history skills such as wildflower, bird and insect species identification. These skills are needed to monitor different species and their habitats and the way they are managed. This in turn will improve the Wildlife Trust's habitat management of nature reserves.
Wildlife Trust Ecology Group members also help to collate and input data; take photos; assist and train other volunteers; and help coordinate projects and organise events.
There are five Wildlife Trust Ecology Groups across our area. They include:
- The Limestone Ecology Group covering limestone grassland reserves in north Northamptonshire and west Peterborough.
- The Beds and Luton Chalk Ecology Group covering chalk grassland reserves in Luton and Bedfordshire.
- The Nene Valley Ecology Group covering wetland reserves along the River Nene, from Northampton to Peterborough.
- The Greensand Ecology Group covering heathland, mire and woodland reserves along the Greensand Ridge.
- The Cambridgeshire Boulder Clay Woodlands Ecology Group covering ancient woodland reserves in south Cambridgeshire.
